This Thing Called Life

Sometimes in our hectic day-to-day comings and goings, we forget to truly live. In the past several weeks, I’ve gone through a range of feelings, a range of emotions, from elation, to anger, to sadness, and back to elation.

Funny, this thing we call life.

The ‘Boys and I have realized something no other Cowboys team in history has done, by going 10-1, but we have so much more to do to achieve our true goal of winning a championship.

Off the field, the church that I love was burglarized, and a young man whom I have played on the same field with, had his life cut much too short.

As some of you may know, a few weeks back the Inspiring Body of Christ Church (IBOC) was burglarized, and the person who committed the act was urged to come forward by Pastor Rickie Rush. That man, Isaac Booker, did indeed come forward. His confession of the crime he committed was made at IBOC during our regular Sunday worship service, and Pastor Rush asked the congregation to find forgiveness in their hearts for this man’s actions. The burglary hurt me deeply, as it felt as if I had been personally violated — after all, it was my church, my pastor, my God who had been desecrated. So I addressed Mr. Booker, and while I did tell him that I forgave him, I also told him that I am still bitter. I said to him “I'm looking at you saying you are a changed man, but you still have a lot of strides to prove to me that you really have changed.” I guess it’s a condition of the human heart that we find it inside ourselves to offer forgiveness, but it’s our heads, not our hearts that often rule when and if to forget. So, while I believe that Mr. Booker has taken the necessary steps to move toward accountability, I believe that just saying that you’re sorry is not always enough. I sincerely hope by the grace of God that this man has learned from his actions, and that he has turned a page in his life. I think we all deserve a second chance and that we need to forgive, but I’m not certain it’s always an easy thing to forget.

I’ve played with Sean Taylor on the same football field, both as a rival and as a teammate. No matter how hard fought battles on the field are, what matters at the end of the day is that we are all fellow human beings, and as such, I am greatly saddened by Sean’s untimely passing. Sean Taylor was a man who had his whole future ahead of him. He was already a gifted player, who was destined to be great. Sean leaves behind a young daughter who will now grow up without a father. This is truly a horrible tragedy, and it puts things in perspective. On the football field, the Cowboys and the Redskins have a fiercely heated rivalry, but once all is said and done, it’s still just a game that we play. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and fans of Sean Taylor. May God bless him, and may he rest in peace.

We played our first game this past Thursday, after learning of Sean’s untimely death, and it still loomed over all of us. Suddenly, a game with playoff implications, a meeting of two 10-1 teams for conference supremacy, became almost secondary. We held a moment of silence before the game, and we all wore “21” on the backs of our helmets, all of this in honor of our fallen comrade. But we still had a game to play, and we played it the way Sean would have played it. We beat the Pack, and now have a playoff berth. Elation once again.

Life is a precious thing, and we all need to live life to the fullest each and every day. We need to be kind to our fellow man, and we need to celebrate joyous occasions and mourn tragedies. We can experience a range of emotions in a very short time, but it is the human spirit that helps us to keep moving forward in this thing we call life.

They might be Giants…

…but we’re the COWBOYS!!!

Whoa! It sure feels great to get a little separation between us and them, but we still have lots of work left to do.

The ‘Skins are in town this weekend, and it’s always fun to play them. The Redskins are a good team, and they always play us tough, so we can’t look past them to the Jets next week, or they’ll be eating us for Thanksgiving dinner!

We have to take advantage of our situation, but we definitely can’t look too far ahead. We have to keep getting guys involved, get the ball to T.O. MB3, J.J., and that guy who “sucks,” according to that giants player, who shall remain nameless.

Anyway, I hope that you’ve been watching us all season long, and I thank you for your continued support. It’s because of fans like you that the ‘Boys are on their way back!

As always, thank you for continuing to visit my site. I’ll try to post a blog entry as often as I can. In the meantime, please continue to visit the Fan Forum and post your own discussions with one another. I may try to stop by the forum from time to time, but mostly my time will be spent here on my blog, so please don’t be offended if I don’t respond to a forum post. Whenever possible, one of the forum moderators or administrators will try to reply to your posts.

Onward and upward!

So, does the road to the Super Bowl now go through Dallas?

Wow, are we ever pumped up now! To go into Philly's house and take care of business the way we did was something.

It's starting to look like the road to the Super Bowl may go through Big "D" now, contrary to what Little "d" (that's Donovan, in case you're wondering) said before the 'Boys tussled with the birds on Sunday night.

But, we don't want to get ahead of ourselves, and we certainly don't want to take anything for granted. As the saying goes, "on any given Sunday..." But we sure feel like "on any given Sunday," that we can beat any team. We're gaining confidence and momentum each and every week, but we can't lose sight of what we're setting out to accomplish.

Next week will be a HUGE test as we head into the Meadowlands to face the Giants. We opened the season against them, and it was close, but after losing that game and the next one, they've won six in a row. We need this one to keep separating ourselves from the rest of the pack!

I'm Back!

Okay, now I have a bit more time to rant!

As I mentioned yesterday, it's been a while between my blog posts recently. But from the excitement of our early success on the field, to my work with my foundation, right up until the bye week, it's been a busy, busy time for me.

No complaints though, I have been blessed in so many ways, and am especially blessed to have fans like all of you!

Thank you all for continuing to read and contribute to my blog, I enjoy reading your comments, and appreciate every one of you.

If you haven't already done so, check out my new Fan Forum, where you can post discussions with other fans. There are some pre-set topics already in place, where you can add new posts. As always, please be sure to let us know what you think, or if there are other topics you'd like to see added to the forum. There is a forum administrator who will check the forum from time to time, and will be able to help answer any questions you may have. I will try to visit the forum myself occasionally, but will probably be busy enough trying to keep up with my blog, so I will leave the forum mostly to you the fans, and to the forum administrators.

In addition to the new fan forum, be sure to check out the Media Zone, as we periodically add new photos and videos. And, for those of you anxiously awaiting, we are still working on getting the Pro Shop up and running. We've had a few technical difficulties, but hope to get that rolling soon. Thanks for your patience. In the meantime, if you would like to purchase a "HEAD-BUSTA" wristband or the OU video featured on my home page, please send an email to Breion Rollins at breion.rollins@roywilliams31.com for more information.

The next three games are HUGE NFC EAST SHOWDOWNS! Time for me and the 'Boys to separate ourselves from the rest of the pack!
